Meet Mrs. Mitchell
My name is
Helen Mitchell and I am a 5th grade teacher at Lee
Hill Elementary School in Spotsylvania, Virginia. My husband, Bob, is a
project manager for AECOM Corporation. I have two children, Rachel and Andrew. Rachel is
a 3rd year student attending Christopher Newport University and Andrew is a 2nd year student at Virginia Tech.. My
stepson, Robert, graduated from Virginia
Tech in 2005. After working in California for Intel for a couple
of years, he attended MIT to earn his Masters and Ph.D and is now living in
Oregon with his wife and son. My
stepdaughter, Jenny, graduated from West
Virginia University in 2007 and she lives in North Carolina with her husband and dog. She works for RTI.
will mark my 21st year of teaching and my 19th year teaching at Lee
Hill. I received my BS in Elementary Education in 1990 from Texas
Wesleyan University. I did quite a bit of traveling shortly after
college to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In 1998, I moved from Fort
Worth, Texas to Spotsylvania,
Virginia and I love it here! I earned my Masters
degree in Education with an emphasis in Integrating Technology in the Classroom
from Walden University
I was born
in Brownwood, Texas and grew up with five sisters and one brother. My
father is a retired Methodist minister and my mother is a retired registered nurse.
They live in Texas as well as my brother and three of my sisters. I have a
sister in Montana and one in Louisiana.
Some of my
hobbies include cross-stitching and reading. We also have two cats, three dogs,
three guinea pigs, and a 90 gallon aquarium.
I am looking
forward to another fun and exciting year of learning. Our class mascot is
a bald eagle named Patriot and we will have several activities revolving around him.
Feel free to contact me by phone at school or by e-mail.
